Ghunsa View Point

After breakfast, you can start your hike. First, you need to cross Ghunsa Khola after that you have to climb all the way to Ghunsa View Point. Dudh pokhari (Milky Lake)

The Dudh Pokhari (Milky Lake) is a little bit hard and adventure day hiking destination from Ghunsa village. You need to start your hike early in the morning after breakfast and you need to take a lunch pack too. You have to follow the way to Sele la (way to Kanchenjunga SouthBase Camp) for almost 15 minutes then you have to continue your way walking to the left side of the Ghunsa hydropower pipeline. The trail is small and Jig-jag so at a certain place you can miss the trail. The walking is nice and beautiful through the jungle. You can meet some Yak’s farmhouse on the way to Dudh pokhari. The people at the farmhouse provide us with Yak’s milk and cheese (Churpi). The Dudh Pokhari is a very beautiful place, there are two beautiful milky lakes. The second lake is a little bit far from the first lake and the second one is bigger than the first. You will be able to enjoy your day hike to see the beautiful mountain views and Wildlife. The dudh pokhari is the best side trip from Ghunasa. But just a few trekkers know about it and the trail here.

 Side Trip from Khambachen

The Khambachen is a small and beautiful place on the way to Kanchenjunga's north base camp. It lies at 4,146m from sea level. There is some nice tea house waiting for your visit, and they warmly welcome you. If you have time, we highly recommend this place to stay one extra night to stay for your acclimatization day. You can make your holiday more enjoyable and adventurous with your day hikes. There is some beautiful place for your day hikes and side trip from Khambachen.

Janu Viewpoint (Kumbhakarna Base Camp)

The Janu viewpoint about 4,600m is a beautiful destination for your side trip from Khambachen. It is the best place to enjoy the great views of Janu Himal (Kumbhakrna) 7710m, Janu glacier, and several mountains peak. After breakfast at Khambachen, you can start your day's hikes. At first, you need to cross the Ghunsa Khola then you can continue your walking through the beautiful valley to reach Janu's viewpoint. The valley view, wildlife, and beautiful mountain view make your side trip more pleasant. You can enjoy the aerial views of this side trip.

The Janu viewpoint is popular with a different name too. It is called Phaktalung (the holy place for the Limbu people) there is a huge stone. Where every people have dreams of reaching there to pray and worship. There is a small temple and one shelter made by the government. Thousands of pilgrims visit the lakes during the full moon festival in August. It is the best and most beautiful place for a side trip from Khambachen.
